Earthworm Invasion

Agustin Gonzalez
Article:
Soil Scientists and Agriculturalists in North America are seeing a strange thing. They noticed that there is an extraordinary increase in earthworms over the years. A few years ago, hikers also noticed that the leaf litter layer have been rapidly disappearing. what the earthworms are doing is that they are slowly eating their way into the forest and in doing that, they are also mixing the litter layer into the soil. Soil Scientists and agriculturalists realize that the leaf litter is essential to the survival of many native trees in that area. They are currently trying to find a solution to this problem.
Opinion:
When I first saw this article, I honestly thought that they were making such a big deal about earthworms in the soil. I mean, I thought the more worms in the ground, that the more they will help plants and trees grow. However, after further looking into this article. I found out that many native trees are in danger and could stop growing in as little as 30-40 years! I also found out that they pull down organic matter into the ground that is needed for many plant to live. I hope that they finally come up with a solution so that the trees and the earthworms could survive.
