Walk Like The Egyptians

http://www.biologynews.net/archives/2011/02/14/mummies_false_toes_helped_ancient_egyptians_walk.html

Recently in two mummies on display scientist found what looked to be two big toes. There was something special about them though, they were fake. It seems that the Egyptians had perfected the making and usage of prosthetics. Up until now the first prosthetics were thought to have been used by the Romans in 600BC. This discovery shows that the practice may have been going way before these times. The scientist attached the prosthetics to actual toe amputees to see if they worked. And they did! One was a paper and glue like substances the other wooden. Both seemed to function perfectly. The were and tare of them tells us that they were used on live people and not just for burial.

I think that this is an amazing find. It shows that even back then we had the knowledge and means to make these false limps. I think that while obviously today we have the ability to make these new limps and digits but to know that even back before the age of technology and advanced sciences we could do this. It also helps us understand the ways of these early people and just how advanced they were. When I saw this I was deeply impressed with just how well these things worked. I have a new respect for these ancient doctors.
