Lactate More Important Then You Think

http://www.biologynews.net/archives/2011/03/03/starshaped_brain_cells_feed_longterm_memory.html

Researchers are finding that the empzyme Lactate may be more important in the brain then we thought. According to their research Lactate is needed to form and remember long term memories but not short term. When they took Lactate away from lab mice and did a series of memory test they remembered for a little while but then later forgot. If the Lactate processes is disrupted then memory problems seem to occur.

I think that this is a very important find, its helping to understand certain diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. While in the past we thought that Lactate was just needed for energy purposes; we now know that it serves a way more important part. This discovery could be vital to those who are lactose intolerant, where their patterns maybe interrupted often. I really hope they continue their research further.
