13 Year Cicadas are coming!
http://www.digtriad.com/news/article/171285/1/13-Year-Cicadas-Are-Coming There are two types of cicadas- the 13 year and the 17 year. They only emerge once every 13 or 17 years, and they stay for about six to ten weeks. They are found in late April to early June. They are only found in the Midwest and in the South. They do not bite, sting, or carry diseases, yet the only downfall is they buzz. In fact, you will hear them buzzing before you EVER see them. They are extremely loud "buzzers". However, it is only the male cicada that buzzes. Your trees could possibly break, due to their eggs being laid on top of them. I think this is very cool. Animals that only come out every "X" number of years are always high on scientists study list. I'm surprised that we know so much about them. Although, I wonder why they stay so long underground. Perhaps, there could be a study done to try and figure this out. Regardless, I find this quite neat! I dislike bugs, but I have to give the 13 and 17 year Cicadas props. They are very cool bugs.
