Hunger Hormone Enhances Sense of Smell

Summary: An appetite-stimulating hormone called Ghrelin causes humans and animals to sniff odors with with greater sensitivity. Ghrelin, made mainly in the stomach, binds to molecules in the brain's olfactory is directly involved in odor processing. This new type of hormone was unknown before Dr. Jenny Tong's discovery. Tong and her colleagues tested how rats and humans reacted to different odors. Overall this is an important modifier of appetite and eating behavior.

Opinion: I think the hormone Ghrelin is a very cool one. There doesn't seem to be any negative side-effects when the participants were given this and it only made them inhale more deeply. I think the idea of enhanced senses is really cool. I'd love to participate with this and like see what its like to be able to smell like really intensely. I found this current event to be very interesting and eye catching.
