It's Time We Learn From Sea Squirts

Go here for more information.

Approximately 40,000 babies are born in the unitedstates with a heart defect. Doctors still don't know much about what causes these promblems in the children. Some of these babies don't even get to see the candles on a brithday cake. Doctor Ricardo Samson believes that it is difficult to properly diagnose and baby with a heart condition due to the fact that they don't show the "typical signs". He states that the way a fetus is develop poses a problem for many doctors to detect heart problems with could be very severe. Their quest to help these kids has lead them to sea squirts. Sea squirts do not have heads, arms, legs, or eyes. They are about 6 inch long sack-like animals that live in the ocean. A sea squirts biological blueprint is extremely similar to that of a vertabrate. Therefore knowing this doctors will be able to study them so they can develop better ways to help the dying babies.

I believe this is a fantastic discovery. It will really help in saving thousands of childrens lives. I do hope they find a way to prevent babies from falling victim to heart defects. After all we already have the ability to create the "perfect child".
