Can Traumatic Memories Be earased?

UCLA life scientists have discovered a possible way to reduce traumatic memories. David Glanzman, a UCLA professor, says he thinks its possible to do this. Glanzman and his team reported that they strongly reduced the memory of a marine snail known as an Aplysia. They learned that the sensitive long-term memory can be erased be putting in the activity of a certain protein kinase. The research can have give way into treatment for post-stress disorder, drug-addiction, and even Alzheimers.

Scientists always are messing with ways to change humans and prevent all sorts of things. I dont think that this research should go to far past the snails because memories get us to where we are in our lives. I can see if someone is suffering from severe traumatic depression or Alzheimers, but i also see it as just a way to runaway from whats happened. I also don't believe that this will be successful because they are trying to play God and it could hurt in the long run.
