spider silk

link: www.biologynews.net/archives/2011/03/01/scientists_unravel_the_mysterious_mechanics_of_spider_silk.html

Summary: Scientists begin to "unravel" the mystery as to why spider silk is so strong. The two main things in spider silk are soft amorphous and strong crystalline. Scientists began by studying the atoms that make up amorphous and crystalline. After dissecting the materials, scientists discovered the soft amorphous is responsible for elasticity, and the crystalline is responsible for "toughness".

Opinion: This is really cool. Eventually I am hoping that they will make other things based on the ingredients of spider silk. It is extremely cool that that silk can hold the spider up, and catch dinner all at the same time, I wonder what it could do for humans.
