This article talks about universities and research institutions in the U.S. that have found four new genes capable of contributing to the Alzheimer's disease. As we all know, AD is a genetic disorder that affects your brain functions and cause lesions in your brain, called amyloid plaques or tangles, that accumulate and cause brain cells to die. The four genes are MS4A, CD2AP, CD33, and EPHA1. They also confirm two other genes that play a part in AD. Those two genes are, BIN1, and ABCA7.
This is great! Now we might be actually getting somewhere for a cure for AD! Those last to genes are essential for producing new medications for patients with Alzheimer's. Hopefully a cure will come out in a couple of years and grandparents will be able to be with their families a little longer.
