Birds have better sense of smell than previously thought

http://www.biologynews.net/archives/2011/04/14/birds_inherited_sense_of_smell_from_dinosaurs_and_improved_it.html

Recent studies have shown that birds have better senses of smell than humans had beleived. Our knowledge of birds was limited to to their ability to fly and their amazing sight. We thought that when they evolved from dinosaurs, they lost one of their smelling ability, and it went to improved sight. CT scans were performed on birds to get a visual of their brain activity and learn about their senses. It was learned that birds' senses of smell haven't gotten any worse since the dinosaurs.

This new information may open new doors in our knowledge about animals. This study changed our belief system behind evolution, showing that we really don't know everything. This study may cause us to put more thought into learning about evolution. That would be good because any information about the past may help us understand the big picture better. Birds were not known to have a sense of smell before, but now we have learned that they do.
