Massive jellyfish swarms have turned many fisheries and tourist attractions into dangerous jellyfish attractions. Places being hit hard are Hawaii, the Gulf of Mexico, the east coast of the U.S., the Bering Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, Australia, the Black Sea, along with other European seas, the Sea of Japan, Namibia, and the North Sea. These jellyfish are ranging from peanut-sized jellyfish in Australia to refrigerator sized ones in the Sea of Japan. Some of these types have cause injuries and even deaths to people enjoying the water. They've also caused millions of dollars of damage to fisheries, fish farms, marine mines, desalination plants, ships, nuclear power plants, and tourism industries. Scientists have blamed these possible causes: pollution, climate change, non-native organism introduction and overfishing.
My opinion is that these are nasty little, or sometimes huge, pests. They're causing damage, injuries, and people to be afraid of the water. I think that people should be aware of these massive invasions so that they can avoid it, or try to find ways to prevent it. These jellyfish can be deadly and if they're invading most of the bodies of water then beaches and other attractions such as boating, etc. can be dangerous. This in turn will make not many people happy as those activities are main summer fun. If i was a scientist I would want to try to research ways to prevent this thing.
