White-Nose syndrome is a disease that is threating to destroy the North American bat population. It is believed that a new cold-adapted fungus (Geomyces destructans) is targeting hibernating bats. The first case of WNS was discovered outside of Albany, New York. By 2010 G. destructans was found in 13 other states plus two Canadian provinces. Since the discovery national attention has drawn our sights to the numerous species of bats. Researchers are following the movements of multiple bat species to fill the knowledge gaps.
In my opinion this could become a very big epidemic, wiping out many of our endangered bat species. I believe that we should work harder to find a solution before time runs out. I think there should be a place for us to put at least two of every kinda of bat for that just-in-case time. This article has taught me a lot. It was very well written and very informative. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
