Earthworm Invasion

Earthworms have started to infest our forests here in North America. They have come from agricultural activities and fishing. They can help the soil, but they destroy our environment by harming the life of the trees around them. They are eating the leaves on the ground, which are a significant part in the process of a seed becoming a tree. The earthworms are moving slowly, so a change may not be seen soon, but in the next generations a change could happen.

If we do not do something about this, it could put the future of our environment in danger. The article says that an earthworm invasion can change the trees in a forest in thirty to forty years, so a stop to the earthworms needs to happen soon. Earthworms can be helpful to our environment as long as we keep them numbered. A change in trees could make a change in wildlife around them, so this could be a danger to animals. It would just be best to try and slow down the process of the invasion or keep the earthworms at a very small number for as long as we can.
