Looking at Your Body Reduces Pain

Scienctist from UCL stated that simply just looking at your body reduces pain. In Psychological Science, research shows that just viewing your own hand reduces pain from touching something hot. Also the larger the hand is looked, more pain reduction. The experiment was with 18 people particiapants. Each person was given a heat probe on each of their left hand. The probe gradually heats up and the participant is given a pedal which they can push to tell they feel pain. Half of the people was looking at their own hand, and the other half was looking at another object. After the test was over, the people who were looking at the their hand were able to withstand 3 degrees celcius more.

I think this is very interesting. I do believe that looking at your self makes you think you can withstand more. When you are looking at it happening, you are aware more of what will happen. If you are not looking at it, you are not expecting what to happen and feel uneasy. I find it intersting that people did an expeirment of this.
